federal taxes are like 6 times higher than my state taxes (I live in a democratic state). WHy haven't the republicans done anything to lower my taxes? I am single, and make about 50,000 a year.

No, richard, maybe I need to make a million dollars, so I , too, can punish the middle class. And wow, you grossed a million dollars, and still not smart enough to read my details. I live in a democratic state, but it isn't my state taxes that are the problem.

I live in a town that is very expensive...all income goes to bills. I pay $6000 a year in property taxes alone...

I have no problem with use taxes...alcohol, cigarettes (I quit smoking) property, or even state income taxes, because I use those things. The federal income tax is ridiculous. And by far the HIGHEST of all taxes. Even in 2000, FICA was higher than federal income taxes.

Because you're single. They say that there's a marriage tax penalty, but that's not really true. The kids, the mortgage, that's all tax relief. I paid 8% under Bush, My husband and I make the same as you (each). We got the tax cut. We really did.

PS: You need to get an IRA if you don't have one.

Duka: Tax revenue went up because of the tax cuts.

Note: If I made over a million dollars I would be on the Riviera not typing at yahoo answers. That's just me I guess. ;)

You're saying that you make about $50K and you're paying about $13,500 / year in taxes, right?

Which of the following does this include:

Social Security,
Medicare,
Beer, Wine, Liquor,
Cigarettes,
Gasoline,
State Income Tax,
City Income Tax,
Federal Income Tax,
Property Tax,
Sales Tax,
Automobile Registration Fees,
Estate Tax,
Capital Gains Tax, and
any other taxes you pay?

As for the Republicans - go back and use the tax rates in effect in the year 2000 and calculate how much you'd be paying in taxes if those rates were still in effect.

As for the state you live in - you could elect politicians that favor lowering existing tax rates or move to a state like New Hampshire (which has no sales or income taxes and is committed to keeping taxes low).

27%? Low Figure, you must live in the United States. In any other country it would be much higher. Move to Nevada, where there are no state taxes. Get rid of the single status to save even more. Adopt a child and claim head of household status. Start a small business and take deductions that way. Find a good accountant. Make contributions of no longer needed goods to charity, and take the full market value off your taxes...

are you old enuf to remember paying taxes un clinton? Your taxes are lower although some have just been redistrubuted. biggest ptoblem is that you are single, we (single people) get scraped clean, you need some tax writeoffs, a house is the best bet, or a couple of kids works good....the house...half of your note goes to pay on the actual amount on the house the other half goes to interest which can be wrote off...so half of your money is actually invested because once the house is paid for you get all that back plus the net gained amount you sell the house for over its original price...a good deal if you can get it

Your tax rate actually went down to 27%. It used to be a few percentage points higher (I forget the exact number).

If you saw the tax brackets from the 1970's, you'd be floored.

Because the vast majority of the tax cuts go to the rich, those making 100K or more. You are too poor to seriously benefit from the Republican tax cuts.

This page

gives a good explanation of how the tax cuts are apportioned, you can clearly see how the wealthy got all of it, and the best part is yet to come for them.

I agree, except...

Why are you not putting more into tax free municipal bond?

What about our retirement account as a tax advantaged savings plan, IRA, 401K, etc...

What about US Savings bonds?

BTW: Taxes suck, my state taxes are worse than my federal taxes.
