Sure, as long as it isn't too beat up and the strings aren't about to snap.

Guitars are like pets/ friends. The more you play/ get acquainted with a guitar, the more you will get to know it. Learning to play takes a whole lot of patience and devotion of your time. A lot of people quit playing early because they didn't know they bought a crummy guitar, whose problems are, but not limited to: very high or very low guitar action, sloppy strings, tuning keys that constantly go out of tune, low quality wood or pick-ups etc. In any case, faults like these make for inharmonious sounds that would force any musician to quit playing. If the used guitar is properly taken care of and you can see it was, then you can purchase it. If not, and if you are conscious about your budget, there are some decent "starter guitars" out there. Ibanez for instance, has been good for me.

Sure, but be sure to check it out first, make sure it's not cracked anywhere, especially the base of the neck. Look down the neck and make sure it's not warped. If it's an electric, play it on an amp to make sure there is no static which will indicate a short in the wiring. Your best bet is a music store, but I have found some good guitars at the pawn shop, but be real carful if you go there.

Yes, but take somebody with you that knows a lot about guitars so they can check it out for you to make sure that there are no major flaws in it. A few "dings and scratches" is probably acceptable, but loose wires, bad fretwork, crooked neck, etc., would be a deal breaker - and should be.

Yes, but take it to a guitar shop (if you didn't buy it at one) to have the fretboard checked - they can warp.
