Human beings believe in religion and other things for one very simple reason: we were taught so. Humans don't have a "fixed" nature, as other inferior animals, we rather build our own personality and life. But we do inherit some things that we learn from our parents ans society. Nevertheless, we can go against the status quo, and even perhaps create new beliefs for the World to follow.

God fearing is not a cringing fear. It is a deep reverence and respect for our Creator. It's similar to a healthy and functional parent-child relationship. The child has respect for the parent's authority in their life and loves them because of it and because they know their parent loves them. It has nothing to do with the Ten Commandments. And it's not about religion either, it's about a relationship with your Creator. I hope this helps you.

same reason people are afraid of ghosts. they both come from our figment of imagination and human imagination power can reach very far. Freidrich Nietzsche said once "God is dead". "God is dead" is not meant literally, as in "God is now physically dead"; rather, it is Nietzsche's way of saying that the idea of God is no longer capable of acting as a source of any moral code or teleology
