Being a good actor does not necessarily require good looks. You could be a good looking person but a bad actor. Drama is an art not a beauty contest. There are occasions in movies and theater when an "ugly" person is required to make the story closer to reality.
In the case of Emraan Hashmi, he is related to a few important people in Hollywood. Mahesh Bhatt (uncle) is a film director and Pooja Bhatt (cousin) is an actor turned film director. They both probably helped him get the big break.

Because he has Mahesh Bhatt backing him up...so all the non sense he does is born by poor film makers.He is really LOUSY as u quoted righly.First time i am happy about writing a bad note on a person like him.I dont care abt his looks, but his acting is really non sense with full of kisses, kisses and kisses..in short his acting and film is all about kissing, adultry, unfaithfullness,fidelty and all the nasty relationship cracking aspects in the world
