First, not all men do this, just like not all women do it either. My finace definitely does not take me for granted as I won't let him, or anyone else, do it.
Second, I think that 'people' do it because they are allowed to by the other person, they know that the other person is able to be taken for granted because of their low self-esteem and low self--worth, they themselves have losw self-esteem and self-worth so they do this to make themselves feel better, it may be how they were raised and they don't care to find out how to change it and won't change until they are ready to, and many other reasons. They are NO excuses for how they act. NOTHING is a good excuse for acting that way. But they could be reasons why.
If someone is treating you that way, stop it NOW. DON'T let someone do this to you, ever. Stand up for yourself and your rights, no matter what it takes or how hard it is to do. I had to learn this the hard way and now I stand up for myself and my rights, no matter what.

i dont take my wife for granted, i enjoy every moment we have together and cherish her. Spending 2 years away from her on a military deployment teaches stuff like that

Usually it is because of the person, not because of the gender. For it does work the other way too, ya know what im sayin!?!
