Silkwraps are a piece of silk that is placed on your nail and usually covered with glue and powder or some sort of gel.. Silkwraps are usually more natural looking and are not as harsh on your nails.

Acrylic is a series of steps combining primer, powder and liquid and is brushed on your nail or a tip whatever your preference is. They tend to be stronger and las longer than silkwraps, but look more artifical most of the time. They are also harder on your nails and will damage them a bit more than the silk.

I think they are both a good alternative to short stubs but natural is the best. Try a nail strengthener like Hard as Nails by Sally Hansen or Nail Optimizer, they both work great and the maintenance and price of natural nails is much easier and cheaper.

If I were to choose between the two, I would have silk wraps put on my natural nails. This will help them grow without breaking and give a more natural look.

with a silk wrap they actually place a layer of silk between you nail and the acrylic. It is supposed to help protect the nail. However when I got it done, it didn't seem to make that much difference. I really don't feel that it is worth the extra money.
