the Democratic party would never go for that. Too much of the democratic base is extremely pro abortion.
Besides Im not sure how much it would matter... Most people I know that vote republican vote that way for more reasons than just abortion.

The Democrat party leaders are nearly ALL so militaristically pro-abortion and against lawful possession and use of firearms that they don't stand a chance of swaying any significant number of conservative votes. Some Democrat contenders like to pretend moderation on these issues, but any knowledgeable person can see right through them. Prime examples of this pretention were John Kerry appearing with a Remington semi-automatic shotgun and pretending to be a hunter and pro-gun , even though he had voted to ban that exact firearm. Jean Carnahan of Missouri tried the same stunt with a brand new Browning Citori shotgun that she bought to show off with before the elections, even though the entire family of Carnahan politicians have opposed reasonable firearms legislation passed by the large majority of the state legislature. This included the concealed carry measure which was vetoed by Governor Mel Carnahan. He RULED the State of Missouri by regular use of his veto power..

I would only consider voting Democrat if the party took a more "anti-Roe v. Wade" stance, not if it took a more "pro-life" stance. Roe v. Wade was an atrocious interpretation of the U.S. Constitution and it needs to reversed as an interpretation of the Constitution. I don't care whether or not Democrats will move to ban abortion if Roe is reversed. I just want to know that Democrats admit that Roe should be reversed. (Even Alan Dershowitz has been saying lately that Roe v. Wade was an example of the Court overstepping its constitutional mandate.)

I will never vote for a party that has as its leaders scum like Kennedy, Kerry, Clinton, Byrd, Rangel, Pelosi, Carter, Michael Moore, etc. I do not trust these people to defend my life, my liberty, my property or the Constitution.

The fact is, the Bush administration is pro-abortion!!!
If they weren't, they could have outlawed it at any time, considering they control every branch of government! Abortion rates have tripled since Bush became president, and halved under Clinton. This is because in order to reduce abortion, it is neccesary to have health care for everyone (most abortions are performed on women that are uninsured or underinsured), and proper sex education (Bush's abstinance only education, in pilot programs in texas, ended up with more unintended pregnancy, more abortions, more STD's, and the vast majority of students thinking that you cannot get pregnant unless you swallow sperm {how else would it get in your tummy?}). Bush is raising health care costs and trying hard (and partially succeeding) to get rid of medicaid, while destroying education.
When these pro-lifers figure this out, I'm sure they'd vote democrat. Unfortunately, most of them are intentionally ignorant. Bush could come out and say "I think all unborn babies should be killed" and they would still support him.
Besides, 76% of Americans are pro-choice. It's only the wacko 24% fundamentalist extremist terrorists (more terrorism on US soil has occured at the hands of Christians than Muslims) that believe that making it illegal is the right way to go.

Probably not many. Especially in today's political climate, abortion is considered below many of the other issues. Tough immigration policies, tough national security and lower taxes are more pressing issues to a majority of conservatives at this point in time.

to tell you the truth, I am a democrate and if they changed their view on abortion, then I don't know who I would vote for. Most likely I would stay liberal, but I don't think I would be very happy if the democratic party started to change their views just to get votes from some republicans.

I'm an independent that usually votes Republican. I might be swayed on that issue, but not anytime in the near future. My main concern in the next couple of elections is the war on terror in general, and the war in Iraq in particular. I believe that were Democrats to get control of the Senate this year, we would be subjected to impeachment proceedings. Bush would not get convicted, but it would be a major distraction we can ill afford.

That is about the only issue on which I agree with the Democratic party. That would not influence me in the least.
