You dont want to be in water that is over 100 degrees. generally with a shower you dont want to create a steam room. you should be cold, but you dont want to be in water so hot that steam is filling the shower and bathroom.
As far as IV's go, its not necissary to have one unless your hospital requires one, or you have complications. most hospitals these days prefer you to be mobile and get up and walk through your contractions.
if you do have to get one, i promise you at that time you will not care. any pain and fear you have will be centered around your belly, legs and back. you wont care that you're getting an IV. i promise.
Talk with yoru doctor and request that you not get one unless you HAVE to. All these people said they have n o choice, but for me at my hospital i dont have to have one. They might try to tell you you need one, but in most cases its just for fluids. if its for medications you have no choice.
Try a birthing center instead of a hospital. They care more about you and your needs, than covering their own medical asses, unlike hospitals.

Yes hot bath, tub, showers are not good for the baby...The high temperatures can raise your blood pressure and deprive oxygen to the baby. Also with increase temps for a long period of time you can start to loose fluid through sweat. Yes you will have to have an IV when you are in labor because you will need fluid replacement so that you do not get dehydrated because you will not be able to eat or drink once labor begins...Most Dr's will only let you have ice chips. Good luck with everything!

I have read lots of conflicting info on hot baths. I enjoy them myself. But every article I have read has agreed that you should not use a hot tub or sauna. A warm bath is OK... some say as long as the water is around 100- 102 degrees. The reason is the heat may cause Neural tube defects or other birth defects because heat is a bad thing for the growning fetus. I have read that warm baths can help during pregnancy with muscle soreness and help you relax. I say use your own judgement on the temp and take a bath!

Yes its dangerous because too much heat to the baby can cause brain damage. That's why they say "stay out of the sun, and no hot baths or hot tubs". I love hot showers but now that I'm pregnant i turn down the heat a little for my baby. Good Luck!

I took pretty warm showers when I was pregnant but never a hot one maybe you should ask your OB/GYN at your next visit before you take a steamy ahower & as for IV's I had one everytime I had a baby & they do suck but once you see that babies face those IV's & anything else your worried about now will seem like small prices to pay for such a big reward

The main concern for hot baths is because a women's temperature can be raised quickly.
You Should Avoid Raising Your Body Temperature
There is a potential danger to the developing fetus if your body temperature rises above 102 degrees. You can raise your body temperature to this level by getting a fever, by exercising too strenuously, working outside on hot summer days, and so on.
About the IV. Yes you will have to have fluids. But they tape it on and you will not even remember you have them. It wont bother you. You will be more worried about your baby on the way.
good luck and congratulations

Hot showers when you are pregnant are allowed but sitting in hot tubs isn't. Yes, you have to get an IV when you're in labor and if it hasn't been done yet then you will require a full blood work up done and a blood test for gestational diabetes around 20-22 weeks.

It's the tempeture of your body which can cause premature labor. When I was 5 months pregnant with my first child, I was in the hospital for 7 days with a severe kindey infection. The main reason was they they had to make sure my tempeture was normal for 24 hours with no medications.
If my body couldn't stay at a regular tempeture, I was in danger of going into labor early.
The bath itself does not hurt the baby. It's the tempeture of your body that could cause the premature labor, which could cause complications to your unborn child.

You should not cover your belly with hot water in the bath. Hot showers are OK. I am the same way with IV's I had to have an IV both times with my kids. I had the strep B. My man made me laugh with my second and I was OK.

No hot baths. It raises your body temp, in turn raising your baby's body temp. As far as IV's you have no choice. That is the first thing they do when you go in to the hospital. Good Luck
