I am what people would probably consider "overweight" and when I had my first son, I only gained 16 pounds. I did not do any exercise different than what I did before I was pregnant, and I ate basically the same too. With my second son, I gained 20 pounds and did whatever (actually I couldnt stop eating at Subway, I had major cravings!) Then, with my last one, I actually lost about 12 pounds in the first couple months, and ended up weighing 2 pounds less at 9 months than I did before I was pregnant. The doctor said he didnt think it was a problem because the ultrasound showed the baby was fine, and because I was somewhat overweight to begin with, he said it was ok to lose while pregnant. I think the most important part is that you make sure you do eat healthy and if you do gain a little more weight than you expect, just work real hard to get rid of it. (After my first son, I lost 18 pounds, after my second I lost 25 pounds and after my third I lost about 30.)

It is good to stay away from junk-food! Good thinking. You should not adopt an excercise routine that is to rigorus but walking, swimming and yoga are a great way to stay in shape. I recently checked out the "Yoga for expectant mother's" tape from my library and copied it onto disc for my own use. I'm 7 weeks prego and I've already gone from 132 to 138. The same thing happened with my first pregnancy. I gained fast in 1st and 2nd trimester and metabolism kicked in during 3rd. i gained a total of 32 lbs. I lost everything I gained plus about 7 pounds by BREASTFEEDING without excercise. So it's something to keep in mind later on. Good luck!

This is what i did to kind of tone up when i found out i was pregnant. And this helps control my weight gain A LOT. I walk once in the morning and once at night. About 13min. each time. I walk fast but nothing to stressful. I also stretch and do 2 sets of 30 squats to keep my legs and butt in shape! I know it sounds like a lot but i fell and look so much better.
I'm having a girl and i gained most my weight in the butt and thighs. Its sucks but I'M HAVING A BABY!
Good Luck!

You should not start exercising now unless your body is use to it. It is not good for the baby. You can walk or swim something that is not too strenuous. Just do not pig out on unhealthy foods. Eat right and it will keep unnecessary weight off.

The best thing to do when you are pregnant is go for walks. This helps you prepare for pregnancy as well as keep your wieght to a good weight. When you walk it teaches your lungs to work in specific rythm. This will help when you go into labor.
Here are some other work outs you can do.

you are not gaining , your body is accumulating extra water for your baby to feel comfy, as it should, exercise is very good but not too much, walking is perfect, so do not get panicky, it is allowed to get 25 or so lbs. in 9 months. 5 or 8 will be water, 8 or so will be baby, 2 or 4 will be after birth, al that you will have to loose is few lbs, beleive me you will loose them fast taking care of your babay. good luck

Walking is great. Also, any type of water aerobics, or swimming is low impact with high results. You should be able to do light weights and/or aerobics and be fine. Just make sure not to push yourself too hard, because you may cause yourself, and your baby harm. Drink LOTS of water too!!! Hope this helps!
