I WOULD REPLACE THE OIL SENDING UNIT
PS262 IS THE STARDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS PART NUMBER
THEY ARE A LITTLE PRICIER THAN SOME AT ABOUT $34 BECAUSE THEY ARE A THREE TERMINAL UNIT, THE THIRD ONE IS DESIGNED TO SHUT OFF THE ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP SND THUS KILL THE ENGINE SHOULD YOUR OIL PRESSURE DROP
YOU WILL NEED A SPECIAL OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT SOCKET TO REMOVE AND INSTALL THE SWITSH SO THAT YOU DONT MESS UP THE INTERNAL PARTS WHILE USING A WRENCH
GOOD LUCK

This dash gauge is a "shunt" type instrument. Sometimes when there is an unusually high current activity in the vehicle, (jump start, excessive charge due to battery drain, etc.) the eddy currents that accompany that current will cause the dash gauges to move beyond their normal limits.
Sometimes they can be repositioned manually by removing the crystal cover from the cluster and gently re-positioning the pointer.
If this doesn't work, and the gauge still wants to point beyond the normal range, replacement of the gauge is necessary.

Good Luck

Sounds like your gauge is broken.

it is most likely the sending unit that is bad, most times the gage itself doesn't go bad the electrical sending unit us most of the time the culprit
