To keep a sane Sim, you need to look after all their needs such as hunger, social life, entertainment, sleep, cleanliness, etc. You must also teach them skills so that they can improve at their work and get promotions.
You should also ask your sim to view any pictures or statues you may have in your house to see if they give you a good reaction or a bad one, if a sim lives in a house with things they like they find it easier to stay in a good mood.
Your sim may also be mourning if you ever had a fire at your house and another sim died in it. This happened to me and everytime my sim walked to the area where the fire was he kept kneeling down and crying. (it was hilarious) This will eventually pass, though.
