I did get a jury summons and I did serve on a jury for 2 days. If you don't go, then you have give them a good reason why, otherwise you will get in trouble. Besides, it is not as bad as you think. The trial I did was only 2 days, we got paid for our time and even got lunch for those 2 days. Now I do not have to worry about jury duty again until 2008.

Depending on the area where you live, you may not need to go. You do need to follow the instructions on your summons though. I've been "on call" 3 times without having to serve so far because there were no trials scheduled.

Just go. Chances are, you probably won't get picked to serve on any jury.

Depending where you live, you may be able to put it off.

In NYC, you can do that twice before they make you go. Don't ignore it. But call the clerk of courts if you can't make it.

My cousin tried that once. He got fined $300, and this was 20 years ago.

Yes, you will get in trouble.

I wrote back and told them that I was the only Supervisor for my department and that I couldn't go-which was true. They let me off the hook.
