initially, all childrens study at diverse costs. So do not take heed to the "they ought to have discovered it through 2 crap"! in the journey that they could count number to 5 pass to 10, yet when no longer do not weigh down them. paintings with fives,a million-5 then a million-10. Make up songs, purchase Cd's with the alphabet and numbers, to take heed to interior the automobile. purchase video clips like blues Clues ABC's and 123's or like others have stated Sesame highway is tremendous. yet attempt to computer screen it with them so that you'll paintings mutually with the television. Play video games. and also V-techs V-Smile is mind-blowing! do not prepare frustration if it takes time, continually make it exciting. also I quite recommend Head initiate.

My best friend used flash cards with the letters and numbers in really bold colors on them. She started with them in order and sang the song. After the kids each learned them in order, she'd mix up the letters and would repeat them over and over until they got them. Repetition is the name of the game, though, and be patient. They'll learn eventually.
Also with counting, use items they can easily recognize and handle to learn to count. You could even, as a time-to-time treat use something like m&ms and have them count them. Then, the m&ms become a reward for a job well done =)

Write them out on a piece of paper and keep showing them while pronouncing them to them. Sing the abc song, thats what I did. My son could write his abcs before he went into kindergarton. I cant remember how far he could count or write, but it was up there. Just keep showing them and telling them.

I would reinforce it through many different avenues - song, movement, color, games, writing...
In daily life, everything can be used as a teaching tool. If you're eating dinner, count how many peas s/he eats. If you're walking down the street play the spelling game - "I see a D-O-G...can you find it?" and let your child search for the thing you spelled.
The possibilities are endless! Remember, if you're having fun with it, so will your child!

For counting just use different examples. Use his toys and stuff, something that he can relate to. As to his ABCs I would also suggest singing it, my nephew is turning 3 and he already sings his ABCs. =)

I just kept singing and repeating them with him. We made the songs into games. I also got cards with letters and corresponding pictures. My son knew his alphabet and letters before preschool
I also hate to say it but Sesame Street was a lifesaver. Kids just seem to love that show.

For alphabets one can show examples from the nature. Similarly, counting can also be taught through nature, eg, counting fruits, plants etc. Children love nature and this seems to me the most natural way of learning. Please do not teach the child consiously, let him /her learn naturally while playing with the nature.

I tried and tried with my 3 year old and he just would not pay any attention. He went to preschool for about a week and he came home and knew them all. I think learning with other children is a big help!
