I bought a house back in Febuary. I agreed for a lease back for 2 months for the home owner. He needed more time to find a home. In those two months I had to sign my kids up for their new school and I needed 2 utility bills in my name of my new address. The previous home owner who could stay in my house for two more months had to pay for my mortgage and utility bills. He did accept for one ,my water and power bill came in AFTER he had moved out (and I haved moved in ) It's not a very big bill. ($168), but it is my money. Does anybody have an idea on how to get m money back. I have called my brokers and I left him a few messages on his cell, but he simply ingnors me.

Frankly, Marysol, this is chump change to your broker, and it is not something he can collect for you anyway. He has no claim against the previous owners, you do. So the best you can do I think is small claims court.

But, hey, $168 added to the price of the home in really insignificant in terms of percentage.

So you can continue to carry this anger, file a small claims suit, waste days off work, and maybe collect $168. If that makes you happy, then you should continue. But, I would simply forget about it and move on to more important things going on in my life.

1. You screwed up.
2. Sue him, but for the amount the small claim court is the way to go
3. 168, write it off to lessons learned.
4. Go on Judge Judy, both of you win that way.

They should have cancelled the utilities when they moved out, and not before.

When they moved out, and not before, you should have had the utilities put in your name.

So you should never have gotten a bill for them using it.

So what is wrong here?

Did you mess up, the utility company or the previous owners?

Small claims court.

If you have his address, send him a photo copy of the bill. If you don't I don't see any other recourse.
