Is that how you perceive yourself is the important question. No matter what your weight you need to have a good self image..too many people (me included) fall into the trap of "if I was only thinner...younger prettier then I would do such and such" Start with you and your self-esteem issues and forget what other people think. Society in general has such an impossible view of what is perfect especially in women that not even celebrities can live up to it. Remember the recent picture of Katie Couric who is not overweight at all, and her having 20 lbs airbrushed off her frame? Almost all pictures on the cover of magazines are so retouched and air brushed if you saw them in person you would wonder if they are same person. Never mind what other people think...it's what you feel about yourself that is most important.

I too over the past 8 years have put on a considerable amount of weight due to a medical problem and medications, so for those that say we are lazy you can "bite me" you are ignorant. However, there is a certain stigma that goes with being fat, sad but true. I moved to florida several years ago, I have a certified ophthalmic license, and dam good at what i do, good references, but could not get a job. One night I was out and having a conversation with a singer from a well known rock band , and he flat out told me that being overweight will not help you to get a job in florida , and he empathized with this, he was not trying to be mean as so many ignorant people are. So i pursued a career based on knowledge, and common sense i.e. a 911 dispatcher, highest grades get the job regardless of size or looks. So i feel for you if you are having emotional as well as social and physical difficulties due to your size. Just hang in there, put your chin up and know you are a good person regardless of size . And if it is any comfort, watch the news, Americans are getting bigger, so we may be the norm shortly.

Personally, it's not the fat that bothers me. It's the health related issues. I probably wouldn't get into a relationship with someone severly overweight simply because I can't handle the emotional aspect of constantly worrying about them ... I'd be worried about heart attacks, diabetes, shorter life-span, etc. I want someone I can grow old with, go out dancing with, travel with. For me, it's the same thing as smoking ... I'd never date a smoker because I know I'd just be trying to get them to quit all the time ... I don't want to knowingly walk into a relationship that's going to cause me problems. If they come up when I'm in a relationship then so be it, I'll deal with them and work through them, but I'm not going go looking for them before anything has even started yet. Know what I mean?

Just because you have a little more meat on your bones doesn't make you different. I love to see larger women that take pride in being big, they dress nice, they have a positive attitude! One thing about it you can be the least attractive person in the world, BUT if you have some confidence and a good attitude, it helps out a lot! So just think I'm beautiful, no matter what!

Depends on why your overweight. Is it because you have a health issue or because you eat too much and don't excercise. Many people are a little overweight but overeating to the point where you are 50 pounds overweight speaks of health or some other mental issue that causes you to eat. Either that or it can be just plain laziness. My best friend is overweight and she admits it is because she is too lazy to exercise. Do you like being overweight?

I feel sadness, for their life will not be as healthy or active soon.

After being there and losing it I can say how absolutely glorious it is to be thin !! Just shopping for clothes is a exciting adventure now !

I believe heavy people are viewed as weak, insecure and lazy. That fits alot of profiles but a food addiction is generally overlooked.

Most people think they're lazy. I was where you are once too (although far heavier than you are now) and I can say that after I lost the weight I did get treated better by just about everybody I met. Maybe part of that was my attitude and my self-confidence, but it sure seems like people just think less of you when you're heavier.

I think you need to find a doctor that will immediately put you on Avandia, Metformin, Byetta, Lipitor and Meridia, join a gym, hire a trainer, walk two miles every day, rain or shine, get all flour products out of your house now and forever, get smaller plates, cut your portions, join a support group, break the food addiction, stop killing yourself and get the life you deserve.

Just a guess but I think that it all started with the fact that obesity can kill you!!! It is not so much wearing a Minnie skirt to flaunt your thin figure... It's the health problems that accompany every extra pound. Lack of exercise means your body cannot function properly, and your diet, if unhealthy is also contributing to poor health. My opinion of fat people is that they don't care about themselves or their body's.
