Usually, when kids drop out of high school, it's because of their lousy home life or the environment in the school makes it impossible to learn or is unsafe. Bullying takes its toll on a student if the teachers and counselors don't do anything about it. As for college dropouts, I think money is the number one reason why people drop out of college. Maybe they are family oriented and need to make a choice between their families and an education. I'm sure people drop out because they are given more than they can handle.

To make intellectual changes in our society, we need to offer higher education the same way we offer grade and high school educations if students meet a certain criteria.

People have and will be dropping out of school forever. My oldest daughter dropped out in the spring of her Senior year. She skipped most of her Junior/Senior year. All our and the schools efforts to convince her to show up and get her diploma failed. Forcing someone to attend school does not work, even if they are forced to go and held captive for the day NO ONE can make them do anything when they are there. They can just sit and stare at the wall doing nothing. I think as more alternatives virtual school, charter schools etc. are developed there may be less dropping out but you will NEVER eliminate drop outs.

Education may be stressed, but inclusion is not. It isn't the in crowed who drop out. Think we need to accept and make a place for all kids.
