It may "look" like a monkey to the naked eye of someone who is not an expert at something like this. There many differences in the skeleton of a monkey from that era and a child from that era. Mabey very MINOR differences, but ones that are important in determining all the specifics of this fossil. Keep in mind that it closely resembles a monkey because that far back, humans DID resemble monkey way more than now. Just leave it to the experts.

The skeleton is exciting because of its completeness. The child is thought to belong to Australopithecus afarensis, the same species as the famous "Lucy" fossil. This may not be a direct human ancestor, but is distinguished from modern apes by brain size and the fact that she walked upright.

Well, the new one is apparently the same species as Lucy, so actually it should fill in the data we got from her, which they have been admitting openly since the beginning is only partial.

This is why I love science - people admitting they don't know everything, that they can still learn, that they might not have it all figured out. :-D

Of course, as soon as this new skeleton clarifies or corrects something they thought about Lucy before, the anti-science crowd will take it as "proof that science doesn't work!" *sigh*

It's better than a monkey, because it may be our ancestor.
