I have had on and off contractions and last night after I stodd up out of bed to go to the bathroom,I had a very painful cramping and tightening of my belly and then it went away after about 1 minute and I was ok afterwards. I am 37 weeks and have lost my mucus plug a few days ago. Could that of been lightening or the onset of real contractions which could start today??

In my experience of having two kids, if you are not having regular contractions, or if your water hasn't broken, they will send you back home if you go into the ER. You will know the difference between the Braxton HIcks contractions and the real ones. Braxton Hicks contractions will usually go away if you walk around or change postion. Real contractions won't go away whatever you do...and are pretty regular. Perhaps you can start a log and record the contractions that last even while you are moving around, etc.

I delivered at 38 weeks, three days after I lost my mucus plug. I went into the ER three times complaining that I had cramping and was sent home everytime! After you start having regular contractions, even if they are spaced out pretty far, that's when I would go in...unless you're not close to your hospital. Do you have a nurse advice number you could call?

I'm excited for you, even though I don't know you! Good luck!

If you have already lost your mucus plug, you could be in early labor. Start timing your pain/contractions to see how long they are. When they start getting shorter and shorter, then you know you are in labor.

But my advice about going to the hospital, dont go until you are closer to them being under 10 minutes, actually more closer to 5 minutes. Anything more than that and they will send you back home until you are in true, active labor.

I hope you have a worry-free, problem-free delivery!!!

It definately could be, usually it's not long after you loose your plug but you never know. Being pregnant any doc would tell you to come in and be seen to be on the safe side. I would definately go get checked-out. You could be dilated and not know it and your beginning labor stages which could take days and days to actually deliver, but it's worth finding out so you can start what you need to to have that baby faster.

Congrats and Good luck - and i really don't believe it's anything serious, but get looked at.

It could be real labor or it could be Braxton Hicks (false labor) If they start coming more regular you need to time them when they get to 5 min apart you need to get to the hospital. Are you dilated at all yet? Try taking a shower when you start getting them. Usually if they are Braxton hicks they will go away. If they are the real deal they will get stronger and longer. If you are in doubt go to the hospital. They will monitor you for awhile. If its not true labor they will send you home. Good luck!!

if your water isn't broken or leaking and the contractions don't hurt like you wanna die then ur ok, walk or clean... i knew my son was gonna be early..but now that i think about it i really don't kno how i knew, oh wait yea it was hurricane season...rita and wilma..i actually was in the hospital with my not even 1 day old son during hurricane wilma in Fl. Sadly somehow he didn't make it at 4months, he passed away so suddenly...cherish the baby no matter how tired you are...bc you could wake up and it will be too late, trust me i know...

They can be braxton hicks or the real thing only time will tell, but true contractions get stonger, become regular and closer together. Braxton Hicks, are irregular and dont get stronger.

Yes. Call your Doctor immediately, you could definitely be going into labor, but time yur contractions to see if they are regular and very close together. Good luck, labor is definitely what it is called....labor.

If they stopped, they were probably Braxton Hicks contractions. If they have continued, then you really need to contact your ob/gyn...you could be in labor. Good luck!!

I would say if they stopped then you are fine. But if it orries you then call in just to check. They will probably tell you to wait untill they start up again! Good luck... I cant wait untill I get to where you are at!!!!
