Is there anyone who could tell me the meaning or meanings of the word: kaflooey? I'd be really grateful for all the explanations. Thanks!

As far as I know, the word "kaflooey" is kind of a slang term to describe a machine breaking down, as in "My engine just went kaflooey."

I was following my chemistry teacher's directions, but I must have done something wrong because my beaker went kerflooey (a Southern version of kaflooey).

It's just sort of a nonsense word for "haywire", one I've known all my life, heard it from my parents and grandparents so it must be very old.
