GREAT QUESTION!!! I answer at least one domestic violence call every single day - and most cops can probably say the same - and they almost always come right at shift change - so instead of going home on time, I have to work that crap for an hour on scene, more if real nasty violence was involved, or we have to remove the kids from the "home" and then go back to the squadroom and bang out the report for another hour or so...all on over-time paid by you...then you have the cost of housing these losers, court costs, attorney fees...it would be hard to estimate the actual cost.

I'm not sure the U.S. government would have those kind of statistics. They probably know how many cases but not sure if they would know how much local government spends or if they (local government) would admit to it. They could have their state department of transportation funds cut.

The final outcome of the problem could be solved easily though: Simply cut the finger off of each partner every time the police have to respond to domestic violence.

The Government does not support domestic violence. Maybe they should make TV ads like for smoking and remind people not to beat their wives.
