When they can read the dial of the wind up clock.
That is a wonderful tool to teach time management and other things as well.

To this day I still go in and wake them up. But I had bought them alarm clocks when they were about 6th or 7th grade. But our schedule is very weird, its easier for me to do it....lol...less being late this way...

When they start sleeping in. By then they should be able to tell time. Young kids usually get up at the crack o' dawn....at least that is my experience.
