I am literally living in one of the poorest neighborhoods. I have no kitchen cabinets b/c I couldn't afford a more expensve apartment. I am living on a very limited budget and cannot afford to buy cabinets. Freecycle Poster had metal cabinets to offer but refused to let me p/u because I wanted to use them in my kitchen, said they belong in basement or garage because she felt they weren't asthetically pleasing enough. She simply refused to let me make my own mind up. This is on freecycle where we're supposed to be keeping things out of the landfill. I have had to live with aesthetically unpleasant furniture, cabinets, etc. before. I knew what I was getting yet she insisting on making the decision on whether or not it was worth it to me - someone several levels beneath her tax bracket - to pick up these cabinets.

I'm a freecycle owner/moderator. I agree with you, but it is up to the poster who he or she gives the item(s) to. I would just tell her that you're putting them in your garage rather than argue with her. I have found that in the freecycle world, the more money someone has, the ruder they are. What I really hate is when one of these jerks posts this: "If someone doesn't get this by 10:00 AM, it's going to the curb." These people obviously don't care about keeping anything out of the landfill. Well, I'll rant all day about this if I don't stop now. I wish you luck.

Junglamatical... you just joined Yahoo Answers and now you're some sort of question judge? Get over yourself.

Have a friend contact the person (as if they have no connection to you). The friend can say "These would be perfect for my garage!" Then you can go over and pick the cabs up and the owner will be none the wiser.

I'm guessing the poster doesn't want to waste time with someone who will come over and then say... "ugh, those belong in a basement." When you use Freecycle, you have to put up with a lot of people flaking out on you.

Another idea: free cabinets become available often when people remodel. A lot of home owners don't know there's a demand for them. If you put an ad in craigslist, you will probably be able to get other ones.

Buy some of the real cheap put-together-yourself cabinets from Wal-Mart. You can even stack them. They are white particle board but don't look too bad. I live in a neighborhood where i fall asleep to the sounds of gunshots and can't let my kids play outside even during the day because needles litter the sidewalk. I feel your pain. There weren't any cabinets in my kitchen either, but then again I didn't have some lady harassing me either. She should try living in such a bad place as I do that Dan Rather did a TV special on the town! I am not at all familiar with freecycle though, I'm sorry.
