It amazes me that people ask such serious questions such as "Should I kill myself" and people who answer "yes" get voted as best answer versus those of us who take the time to explain the negativity of the situation. Who is voting for such ignoranance? Some people really take the time and put their thoughts and experience into some of these answers hoping to help someone in need, and then dumb people come along and just answer for the points or for the attention and yet they get voted best. It really amazes me. So explain to me why the idiots get the prize for being an idiot? America is getting a bad image due to the stupidity of how we portray ourselves. Noone takes anything or anyone seriously. They would videotape a suicide for YouTube rather than be up there coaxing the kid down. Greed and selfishness rule this country and then everyone complains about the leaders who are just like the average american, only out for themselves. Leave idiotic reponses. Prove me right.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of these people have more than one account and are voting for themselves. Some people also just go in and vote on the very first question just for the point. It very much annoys me when stupid or insensitive answers get voted as best. I try my best to go through and vote. I always read the answers and vote for the one that I think is best.

It comes down to stupid people making stupid answers and those people probably don't feel like typing that much. Most likely it is lazy people who have nothing else to do but write short answers. Another thing is irony, America is supposed to be the greatest nation, helping everything and everyone, the elite of the elite, yet we Americans are portrayed as morons. A major source is political figures.

Let me tell you a little something about voting. Most people who vote only do it for the points. They don't bother reading anything. They usually pick the first answer to every question, click on it and then move on to the next question, scroll down, click on the first answer, click to the next question.......etc so forth and so on. That way they can vote all the way to their limit. And it only takes about 5 min. You can see proof of this when you go to vote. The first answer to every question always has the highest percentage of votes!!!

You have a point about the stupidity but your question ignores the responsibility of the asker. If the asker wants the Best Answer accolades to go to the true best answer, he/she should pick rather than leave it to voters.
Besides there's an easy way to deal with postings you don't like; ignore them and move on.

Nice rant, but you should amend the fact that this foolishness is human nature, not a product of being American.

Not everyone has the opportunity of education and reside in the suffocating "bliss" of ignorance. So what if the Internet is polluted with their uninformed opinions? Let the morons get their best answer points, it is probably the highlight of their lives.

Don't look for truth in this false world called the Internet.

yes i certainly agree with u..i mean its not just for fun that we answer yahoo questions or not just for points...its one of the ways how we can contribute our bit of help to guide the needed ones...when opinions and choices are many then it becomes easy for judging alternatives and taking wise actions.....i think people need to be serious while answering any question and make an effort to atleast contribute a bit of their knowledge.....and for those who give stupid answers we always have a chance to vote their answer as bad or give a low rating...

I suspect that most often those questions like "should I kill myself" are posed by attention seekers and not intended suiciders.

Remember that Y!A is not the real world and we are all anonymous, so we can be as idiotic or insensitive or opinionated as we please with no meaningful retribution.

Everybody likes hearing what they want to hear. If you are depressed, someone saying "Yeah, go kill yourself" might sound as a great wise person.
Even you are that way!!! That last "Prove me right" means you want encouragement (so natural).
