Hi there. I'm visiting Montreal tomorrow (I just decided on this today) and I'll be staying for a day and a half. Is that enough time to see the famous landmarks and travel into Old Montreal? I don't need to spend all day at all these places, but it would be nice to get around to the Olympic Stadium, Old Montreal, St. Lawrence River, American Pavillion (I think that's the name...the World Fair deal), and walk the streets on Montreal. This question is directed to anyone who's visited or lives in Montreal. Thank you for your help and advice.

The hardest one is the Biosphere (former US pavillion at the 1967 world fair) as it is open only from 12 noon to 5 PM these days. Take the Metro, station Ile Ste-Helene, unless you want to drive there, but then it is a bit more complicated although well indicated. The Olympic stadium is on Sherbooke street, again with the Metro, very easily accessible with 2 stations close by: Viau and Pie IX. Pie IX is actually the one most directly connection to the inside of the stadium.

Is a day and a half enough? Well, that depends on how much walking you want to to, and how fast you walk.

One place you HAVE to go is at Schwartz's (3895 St-Laurent) for a Montreal style smoked meat sandwich -- have the cherry drink with it. There is usually a bit of a line-up of people waiting outside as the place is small but VERY popular, but it is well worth the wait.

If you're just staying for a day, you'll have to make an express visit!

For sure, go on Crescent street for dinner. That's between Ste-Catherine and De Maisonneuve.

The old American pavilion has been transformed into a museum about the St-Laurence river. It's nice, but I'm not sure that's what you'll want to see... However, if you go on the Ile-Ste-Hélène (using the Metro), wander around and you'll see alot of nice stuff.

Of course, Old Montreal is a place to go. St-Paul Street is beautiful around St-Laurent st.

Good luck! Hope the rain won't bother you!

I do think that a day and a half will be enough if you are just passing by the attractions, perhaps you'll have time to get off and take some pics. Have fun!
