certainly the planet is being put under tremendous pressure with all the pollution and damage to our atmosphere. to some extent we humans are jeopardising our own existence, such as through making of nuclear weapons. perhaps we may be the first species to become extinct on account of our own actions.
that said, we must maintain optimism, that bird flu will be contained as have other outbreaks some on a larger scale such as small pox, optimism that we humans will not be stupid enough to use nuclear weapons ever again and move towards nonproliferation for all.
in trends such as global dimming we see some hope held out for our environment as well, that a slow and gradual reduction in harmful emissions may be sufficient to save our planet.
to an optimist, this may not be the end of the world, but an awful lot of things would have to go right.

why does everyone list bird flue, like its some global universe changing event.

Anyway, yes its the end of the world as we know it, tomorrow will be the end of the world as we know it again, the world changes everyday, dont just focus on the negative. Change = change, the end of things being the same, blah blah blah.... If it were to alweays stay the same iwould be really upset because I cant wait for the Nintendo Wii and eventually virtual reality and to be able to one day visit these rural countries in the east with my church. But not today. Thank got that will end.

by the way, I really like your avatar :-) hes got a new movie out I havent seen yet. Did you know Napolean Dynamite's actor is Mormon? little known fact.

i think so. the difference now as opposed to all the crises that have ocured throughout history is that now the whole world can be affected by a weapon, be it a nuke, biological weapon, or a chemical device. so the potential for truty global destruction exists, which is unprecedented

so again i say yes, pray fro peace but prepare for war just in case god's had enough of our nonsensical behaviors.

Sooner or later but not quite yet. Being wise and ready preparing ourselves is key. They the government miss a lot of stuff and whatever we can do to help ourselves in the meantime is optimal. For if we think we have all the old problems solved a new ones bound to arise.

I hope so. I look forward to embracing the horror of a full blown "The Stand" combined with "Day of the Dead" holocaust action. Sure would make life exciting for the little time left.
