how about a ban on all wives calling husbands on cell phones

I think that people should be required to use a hands-free device. Almost every new cell phone is Bluetooth ready, and some new cars are even putting this in standard. The conversations aren't usually what cause the accidents, it's holding the phone with one hand, dialing numbers, finding the phone in your purse, etc. I personally don't use Bluetooth, but my phone has it and I will probably get the headset at some point. I don't answer the phone while driving unless it is in my plain sight, and I have voice dialing so I don't have to even look at the phone to call out. I do try not to use it unless I have to though.

I agree.

There is a ban here in DC, though I have seen people still using their cell while driving. I'm primarily a pedestrian so I really would be for the nationwide ban, so I could cross the street without being hit by a distracted driver.

Works for me, too many can't drive when they have nothing distracting them. Statistics show talking on a cell phone raises the chances of a wreck ABOVE that of driving drunk.

Notice how few answers you get when you ask a question regarding the preventable death of thousands of Americans each year, yet these same people will gripe about slow drivers in large numbers.

(The "Ban" in DC is only for hand held, not cell calls)

So, it's OK for others to be endangered because someone wants to conduct business while operating a motor vehicle and can't be bothered to stop?

In CA, a law was just passed prohibiting cell phone use w/o a hands free device (Takes effect in Jan 2008) Personally, I don't like to drive and talk on the phone. I notice that a lot of people that try to use their cell while driving don't pay enough attention to their driving.

even hands free stuff is dangerous! if people would pay attention to the road it would be so bad! But some drivers can't even talk to a passenger or listen to the radio! so were screweed anyway!
so the ban of cell you while drive is a GREAT idea!
even though i sometimes use my phone while driving! i ensure to get in the slow lane and i tend not to remember the phone call!
i have been in 12 car accidents! most of them were due to weather tho!
that and i drive to fast!
but the band on any type of communication device while a car is in motion should be outlawed! still think we will get tailgated!

Mad luv!

often times i think of that "speaking" on a similar time as making use of must be banned. no longer in user-friendly terms speaking on the cellular telephone - yet conversing on your passengers. If no longer banned - then extremely the advice must be made to all drivers throughout education or re-education - the two old and youthful - that speaking on a similar time as making use of must be constrained to short, user-friendly conversations regarding in user-friendly terms giving instructions or not greater complicated than giving a turn preparation. that's distracting to talk andcontinual - you are able to pass over an go out - you additionally can't be conscious a automobile interior the subsequent lane once you want to drag over.
