As a lifelong skinny person always accused of being anorexic, I'll say that it's not *necessarily* the case that your friend has an eating disorder. Mere skinniness is not enough to know; however, you should be aware of bulimia, which is an eating disorder that involves "binging and purging" - forced vomiting after eating. Like any eating disorder this is highly destructive, both emotionally and physically. Unfortunately I know very little about how to deal with this correctly. Actually the best person to ask for advice might be your school guidance counselor, who ought to have some experience and training in the matter. Your concern is good; if you're really worried find out more about this and if you think it's happening, help your friend. People can recover from eating disorders, and support is a huge factor.

Maybe she is just naturally very thin, with a high metabolism. Her measurements sound ok...yes she is quite thin, but it is not something to be concerned about as long as she doesn't get any thinner. I'm wondering if she has a very small frame, which is why she doesn't weigh much, plus she is only 16 so she may still be developing. Some girls start developing a bit later, I'm sure she will soon fill out. If she is eating properly, and doesn't get any thinner, then try not to worry. If you are still concerned, then you should encourage her to talk to someone like a doctor. HTH : )

I used to be the same way at that age. All through my teenage years I never weighed more than 95 llbs. I was also exactly her height. I was always teased about how skinny I was. But no matter how much I ate, I couldn't gain weight. I didn't exercise but my metabolism was very very fast. Everyone envied me for being able to always eat what I want without having to worry about gaining weight.
Now at 24, that's changed. I have to watch my diet and work out at least 4 days a week to stay thin.

My husband is hypo glycemic and I used to have an eating disorder, so I'm pretty familiar with both. If she is eating regularly and healthy, she probably is hypo-glycemic. It's basically the opposite of diabetes. It just means she has a REALLY fast metabolism. Check out http://health.yahoo.com/ency/healthwise/rt1054 for more information. If she has an eating disorder you can look for these symptoms:
Bulimics usually have yellowish teeth from the vomit acidity. They make frequent trips to the bathroom after every meal to purge. Another form of bulimia is using laxatives to purge. If she's doing this, she'll have frequent stomach aches and trips to the bathroom. If this matches some of her behavior check out http://health.yahoo.com/topic/mentalhealth/prevention/qanda/mayoclinic/B6BE058B-6CC4-4661-B106FBB88195B0FB;_ylt=A9htfowdDhRFiQQBJgYUu7cF

You say she eats a lot, so she's probably NOT anorexic.
Remember some people are just naturally skinny, not fair, but they have their own set of problems. Most guys like a little curve, so don't be jealous, it's hard, I know, but there's nothing we can do about that. :-) Good luck!

Is shes eating and not putting on weight then i dont think she has an eating disorder , maybe she just has trouble putting on weight as long as her doctors says shes healthy hen there is nothing to worry about, I spent the whole of my early teens eating like a pig but i was skinny as a stick people tought i wouldnt eat on purpose because i didnt want to put on weight , but that was just the way my body was built i couldnt put on weight like the other girls, which my doctor said was perfectly normal as long as i was eating. I started putting ont he pounds only when i turned 20 so its fine everyones body works differently. Maybe talk to her baout your concern, and if you really that worried then maybe as k her to see a doctor its possible that she may or may not have a eating disorder, good luk

If your best friend is eating a balanced diet and is not constantly consuming "empty calories" from junk food, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. She obviously has a quick metabolism. She should start filling out by the time she's 18. After that, she should be closer to her ideal weight which is about 110.

Trust me, just let it go. If you are watching her eat and being happy just trust that she has the metabolism of a racehorse right now. It'll change around 18-19. I was just like that, 5'2" and 94 pounds for about 3 years (16 to 18) and I ate everything and anything I wanted, it's just the metabolism.

It could be an eating disorder, but its is very likely that that's just her metabolism working over time. If she is eating and there is no sign of bulimia, but your still worried talk to her about it and if something serious then tell someone who can help her.

I was the same way at that age. I'm sure she is fine. Just watch her. If she eats alot and then goes to the bathroom right away follow her. She may be throwing it up. Is she tired alot? Have you talked to her about your concerns? Some people are just blessed with thin genes.
