1. Do questions from the book, even if they have not been assigned, try problems that you can find the answers to, to check yourself.
2. Study with friends or other classmates. You can help each other find the answers.
3. Put any formulas on flash cards, just the act of writing them can help, but being able to understand when and how to use them will also help.
4. Get plenty of sleep before any test, staying up late will not help you do well, and do a quick refresher before you start any test.

Methodically! Mathematics in general must be studied repeatedly in order to stick in your brain. (I know this from years of not doing it this way) My suggestion to successfully "learn" calculus is to study it a little bit everyday. If you can't give a full hour or so to just studying math then incorporate it as a part of other activities... do flashcards on the comercials of your favorite tv show, or hang them up on your bathroom wall (big enough so that you can read) and stare at them while you take a shower.

Do as many practice problems as you can. At my college, the teachers will usually let you have old tests for more practice, too. For me, that is the best way to study is to do LOTS of practice problems. Not much fun, but it will work!

Solve as many problems as you can. Don't ask why, but Mozart as background music helps your concentration.
