If there is a law in place that prevents people from smoking in certain areas,or if there is a no smoking sign somewhere, would it be legal to use chewing tobacco or snuff in the no-smoking area?

It depends upon where you live. Some states give the power to regulate smoking to their local governments. Then, smoking regulations would be governed by city ordinances. Those are laws. You must follow them or you will be breaking the law. Privately owned property may have smoking policies. You must follow their policies or they may kick you off their property. You are not breaking the law if you don't follow their smoking policy. You are breaking their policy. If they try to kick you out for breaking their policy and you refuse, then you are breaking the law because now you are trespassing. Also--'No smoking" does not mean no chewing. "No tobacco" means no smoking and no chewing. You can chew tobacco in a non-smoking area.

There have been laws about spitting long before laws about smoking. Snuff and chewing tobacco require spitting, else you would get very, very sick. Nicorette gum would be a better choice.

Smoking laws are different around the country. Most places forbid inside buildings. Other places allow inside building if no minors are allowed. Some areas forbid smoking even outside. You have to check your particular area.

I work at a major university and our signs on all buildings say "Tobacco Free Building" so all tobacco is banned. The ban extends to 30 feet outside the doors so tobacco is not allowed outdoors in these areas. The fine, if caught is $30 and I have never heard of a fine being imposed.

Chewing Tobbacco, etc. does not cause a direct harm to those around you and therefore it is fine.

HOMOSEXUALITY??? I'm pretty sure that more people are killed by smoking!!!! You can't practice "safe smoking". How can you get mad that the government is infringing on smoker's rights when you want to oppress homosexuality. There is no risk of "second hand gayness" and I'm pretty sure Billy and Jimmy can't start going at it in a resturant after dinner anyway.

There are no laws on chewing tobacco or using snuff as this doesn't polute the air. There are laws against spitting though.

Yes, the law prohibits "smoking" because it affects the air quality and "hurts" other people. If you dip or chew, you aren't doing either...so use that 'baccer.

David the reason why they have to "infringe" on your lifestyle like that is because nobody else wants to breathe your nasty smoke. And we should not have to. I choose to be careful about what I put in my body, and I don't want smokers polluting it for me without my consent. Besides, in public places, there are always babies and pregnant women and they should DEFINITELY not be subjected to something so dangerous.

why does the government have to infringe so much on people lives like that- yes it is an unhealthy lifestyle but there are some which are even unheathier than that - such as prostitution, drug use, & homosexuality.
