Ok I know this is going to sound really stupid, but I am trying to be serious. I have been seeing my OB/GYN for over a year now, and usually he has been really good in trying to help me out. Lately tho I don't feel that way. I know what is wrong with me and that the only thing that I have found to help would be surgery either an oopherectomy or hysterectomy, but he says he won't do it just yet because of my age. I am happy with just having one kid, and am sick of living my life on pain meds. I have repeatedly told him this. I had to go to my Family dr. the other day for strep throat. He asked why I was on this medication for pain and I told him. He asked me point blank "Why haven't you had a hysterectomy yet??" I wish I could just see this dr. over again since it sounds like he wants to help, but because I am dealing with military dr. it is hard to get good treatment. What would be a polite way of asking him to refer me to someone that will help if he isn't going to?? Sorry I rambled!!

Considering doctors make money by doing surgery, which would mean if your doc was to do a hysterectomy he would be making more money, chances are he may actually have your best interest at heart when refusing to do it. There are dangers to having a hysterectomy at a young age......

You have every right to ask for a second opinion. No need to be polite, you have already told him how you feel. Sounds like he has the problem. Next time just tell him thats what you want and if he won't do it, then can he refer you to someone else. I'm sorry for your pain.

I am retired Navy. Are you active duty? What age are you?

I know the age makes a difference to them. There has been alot of females getting a hysterectomy and then later wanting more children. Maybe they changed their minds, or because an accident happened and they lost their only child.

Your going to have to tell them, (nicely) that this is what you want. And that you dont want to live on pain meds the rest of your life.

I know I could be on pain meds, cuz of pain all the time. But I dont and i live in pain. It sucks.

do what you have to do to take care of yourself. But be sure thats what you want. Something happens to your child, are you gonna want another one?

Doctors SHOULD be professional with that type of question. If you aren't happy with the care you are recieving, then you should feel comfortable asking your obgyn for a referral. If he gives you a hard time then he really isn't a good doctor. You could also just not go back to him and get a referral from your primary care physician.
