After having to lie about WMD,s in front of the UN and other disagreements with his bosses, he did the only thing he could do. Resign and try to distance himself from the current administration's other inane decisions. I watched the debacle at the UN live and told my wife to watch to watch his body language. You could tell that even he didn't believe what he was saying but as the true soldier he is, he followed his Commander in Chief's orders. I admire the man for his service to the country and while I wish he would run for President in the next election, some nutcase will shoot him for sure because of his color. The only honest person anywhere near Bush and it's a shame he had to leave.

He split with Bush after 2002 because he did not agree with his policies....that's when I knew Bush was starting to step over the line. Powell is a very sensible and intelligent man, however, Bush doesn't like people disagreeing with him, especially people in his cabinet. Powell is one of two Republican political figures that I have even an inkling of respect for, McCain is the other. Even as a liberal, I would vote for either man in a presidential election.

Powell had the smarts to leave Bush and his cronies while he was able to maintain some of his integrity. I think that being asked to ride shotgun on Bush's propaganda wagon left a sour taste in Colin's mouth. He was the only one in Bush's administration that I have any admiration for.

He lost his integrity back when he investigated My Lai and found no sign of anything having been done wrong. From Major in Vietnam to liar at the UN Powell has always been and will remain a field hand who got to work in the house!

He rarely criticised Bush. When he did, after he had resinged his position, he got this reponse:
In response, Mr Bush accused his former secretary of state of "flawed logic", while the White House press secretary, Tony Snow, said Mr Powell was "confused".

He resigned after the 2002 elections and Condeleeza Rice became Secretary of State. He seemed to be having more and more points of disagreement with the administration.

He was lied to by the CIA Director over WMD in Iraq, and pushed around by Rumsfeld. He did not do a 2d tour as Secretary of State with Bush but retired. He is now ready to come back to life!
