Does anybody know what the laws are or where I can find out what the laws are regarding size, shape, and material for the construction of Gravestones for the UK and the USA?

it all depends on the byelaws of the particular council that administers the cemetery

In the UK burial grounds are subject to Local Byelaws. There will be a set of Byelaws for each cemetery. The department of Communities and Local Government should have a Model Byelaw that Councils can adopt.

Don't know about the UK, but in the US there is no law governing this. Its simply a matter of what the particularly cemetery allows. Many modern cemeteries require markers that are flat on the ground, so that it is easy (and cheaper) to mow the grounds. However, older community cemeteries generally haven't gone this way.

It depends on the actual cemetary- there isn't a universal law. You need to find out what the particular cemetary you have in mind will permit. Some will be more flexible in size for example than others, some will allow unusual coloured granite- others won't.

Hope that clears it up for you.
