Yes the United states is the leader in many things, like Obesity, Sickness and disease. Why Because they all flock to the leaders of their country like birds in a feathered nest. To just be led to an erarly death, Because of the one sided ness of our so called great scolars who know absolutely nothing of infinate health and long gevity in this day and time. Yes we are the great leaders of the world in cancer deaths which are needles. When corporate america and the present leaders have sacrificed every one of your children, and your selves to be destroyed because of the dollar that is to be made from each and every one of your suffering's. It does not have to be this way. Don Ed.

The USA is the most powerful nation. That does not necessarily mean the leading nation. A leader is someone who is followed. In that case there are many leaders in this world. The US is leading a part of the world. Iran leads a part. At this moment Venezuela is leading a part (half a dozen countries). France leads a fairly big part. So does Spain. So the USA is A world leader, not THE world leader.

for now they are - but all of the goods being produced now have ' china ' on them . You could call it an economic - industial - technological - revolution etc. When most of the goods are produced by another country then the power will shift there - then they will have the ' sphere of influence ' that the u.s still enjoys. It takes money to maintain a standing army -- look at rome and the british empire - they both went broke and declined -
well there are thousands of companies in the us whose sole purpose is to outsource jobs and / or industry to other nations and of course china is the easiest and cheapest to go to. We always need a leader - egalitarian etc .. is an ideal - there has always been one or two world powers.

Only those willing to be led can be, and much of the world is unwilling to accept our present leadership. (Much of the country, in fact, is unwilling to accept the present leadership!)

Now, it seems to be human nature to follow charismantic leaders. All through history, men (and sometimes women) have stood up, taken hold of the reins, and led societies, nations, etc. through all manner of trials.

Is it neccessary? I don't know if it would be in a perfect world. It seems to be needed in our world, though. Without strong leadership, our individual natures take over and we end up fighting each other.

Should the US automatically be the world leader? Many would say yes, but in my mind the jury is still out. There is no doubt for me that the Enlightenment principles our Founders espoused (freedom, equality, brotherhood) are superior to the majority of the world, but those principles have slipped somewhat in the past 200+ years.

Despite the firm beliefs of many other Americans, I would have to say that right now we aren't in any kind of shape to lead the world. Yes, in military technology we are still top dog (for now), but as they say, might does not make right.

Close to a third of humanity live in China and India. They have the bomb. Russia still has it too. 1.2 billion people (about 4 times the U.S. population) follow the Islamic faith. For the most part, the U.S. is dependent on them for energy (i.e. oil). Europe is more culturally advanced than the U.S. (Lived there for over a year - it's just a fact) and they also have the bomb, so military superiority means nothing to them. As a matter of fact, China, India, Japan, and a host of other countries have cultures that put the U.S.' to shame. To these people, educated means much more than simply technically capable.
Economically, China and India are quickly catching up. Electronics made in India and Japan are outstripping the stuff made in the U.S. Auto manufacturers in the U.S. are in such trouble because they worked on a model of planned obsolescence for so long. Now, they're getting eaten alive by Japanese, European and Korean competition even on their own soil.
So, no. Only someone who's lived in the U.S. all their lives and listened to the drivel network news keeps feeding day and night could believe that. I mean, there's a whole world out there. Wake up.

Every time there is a disaster in the world, my country is asked for help . We always give. Special collections are even taken up in church. We don't control humanity, we are asked to help, even from those who hate us. Perhaps the next time there's an earthquake, famine, or some other disaster, another country can stand up and say, we'll help. Remember, all of this money come out of the American people's pockets in the form of taxes.Maybe we should go back to being isolationists, and let everyone take care of their own problems. Then nobody could bad mouth us any more!!

Yes. Only by being the biggest bully. The leader in crime, violence, greed, self-destructiveness, and the leading threat to world peace and the environment. It's got some pretty nice people, however.
One thing I like in the USA is domestic design. Some of the best modern architecture and furniture design.

Adolf Hitler was a leader who led the country to destruction. Perhaps you mean that kinda leader. America's gonna lead earth to its destruction
Truely speaking all the might of this superpower ( whose prezs are either staining their trousers in White house or massaging the shoulders of German chancellor or see ghosts in country when there is none and attack that country send their soldiers to die, do not know how to retreat and DO NOT KNOW WHERE THEIR ENEMY # ONE bin Laden IS HOLED UP) is in hands of Americans who average to a knowledge level of 10th grader and maturity of a 10 year old brat..
Can an American answer this " Why do they have right of 'right hand drives' on road?" ( make it sound logical please. I'm not American so I've added the word 'please')

According to the French, we are the "Hyperpower." Madeline Albright also intimated that it "isn't fair" that The USA is so much more powerful than everyone else. Al Gore said "America is the world's leader." So all these idiots think we are the world's leader. It's the only thing I agree with them about.

America leads in:

Technology
Engineering
Medicine
Physics
Computer Science
Business
Economics
Political Science
Military
Space technology
etc

France leads in:

Cheesemaking
