I didn't know how to properly use the nasal aspirator for the first couple of months until one of the nurses at the Dr. office showed me. Put the skinny end into one nostril until it makes a seal and cover the other nostril with your finger making a complete seal. Now the sucker won't suck air in from one side and thru the other skipping all of the congestion. I was also squeezing the sides of the bulb and she said you could get more suck if you pushed the top of the bulb down to the bottom with your thumb. That method worked MUCH better than how I had been doing it. It seemed like it was sucking stuff from deep inside her. She hated it during the sucking, but she was much happier after she got cleared out. Hope this helps.

First, use saline drops in baby's nose. Now I will tell you what ER doc told me when my baby was in the hospital with a respiratory illness. Most people think that the buggars come from up in the nose like toward the brain, but actually here is what you do. First, place your thumb on the end of the round part of the bulb, fingers holding the round part still, squeeze and hold, dont let go. Then put into babys nose , aim down like you are going towards throat, not brain. Then let it loose, stop squeezing. You will be able to hear and feel(thru the bulb) mucas coming out. Remove from babys nose ,sqeeze and let loose really fast onto tissue and see your results. This may need to be done several time. Just remember, it is easier with saline drops.

Use saline drops first. Wait a minute for them to work and loosen everything up. Then use the bulb:

Squeeze it before you put it in (so you don't blow air into his nose). Next insert it into one nostril and place a finger over the other nostril. Slowly release the bulb so that it starts sucking. As you do slowly uncover the other nostril. This way you get some suction instead of just pulling air from one nostril to the other. Sounds strange but it works.

Also make sure you wash it after each use. That's another good reason to squeeze it before you insert it. A little water my still be in it. My sis-in-law accidently blew water up her baby's nose.

According to my sons' pediatrician, bulb syringes should be banned. LOL She said to use it only if the mucous is right around the very inside of the nostrils (where you can see it). If you know they're congested but it's pretty far back, you should avoid bulb syringes because even though they're soft plastic, you can still damage the (very) sensitive mucous membranes in the sinus passages. She suggestes using saline nose drops to break up congestion. Also, using a cool mist humidifier or a steam vaporizer (just be careful your baby can't get to it--steam burns are some of the worst in the world, especially on delicate baby skin!) to keep the sinuses from drying out.

If ur using it to suck those little boogers out of your little ones nose, its easy. Squeeze the bulb so all air is out of it, then place in baby's nose and release slowly. Try angling it alittle as well. Not just staight in. It might scare him/her at first or even make her cough. If she coughs u are doing it alittle too fast and hard. In the meantime, have fun keeping thier little head still! LOL

you have to keep the baby still, they hate it !!! Squeeze the air out the close one nostril with your finger and put it in the other nostril. Squeeze out the stuff onto a tissue and do the same thing to the other side. here are two sites for you. Good luck!

I recommend you put some saline drops in the nostrils first, to loosen the stuff in there, then it's easier to suck them out. You can practice with a bowl of water.

Squeeze it and then insert it, gently and let go then take it out. The gently part can be tricky of you have a squirmy baby.

When I use it on my son I point it towards the top of his nose. You have to be able to get some kind of seal for it to work properly. I was getting frustrated with it myself until I learned that.
