when i go to microsoft to download it, there is a boot disk for service pack 1,home edition ,and one for service pack 2,does it matter what one of these i download ,as i dont know what service pack my instalation disk is,or dont know if it makes a driference,,,,thanks for the help peps

u'r xp-home installation disk is bootable

u don't need any extra 'start-up disk'
handle it carefully, & not scratch it ... that's it !

u can go 2 bios & set 1st boot device as cd-rom
u can then try booting up from cd & try

yes the service packs make a difference..
service packs are installed for boosting security by covering up patches that were left during the making of the os......

and also the version of the software. i.e., if it is a home type or a pro type, also plays a significant role... so first determine which type of os are u sing and then the service pack installed..
for this do the following steps....

Right click on MyComputer and see there, the name of the os using, the make , the user type and the service pack installed in it............ then

u go for microsoft and download the boot disk file...
ok....

By the way, if you want to find out which service pack you got, right click My Computer, and select properties. If you don't see a service pack in that system info, then you don't have it.

just start with the basic
download with service pack 1

if your cd is service pack 2 then install it
if your cd is service pack 1 don't install it

ok properly I even have an answer yet its quite long even though it may artwork get a 8 gb usb stick and from a working laptop or computer get the xp abode version application and positioned it on the usb by reproduction and pasteing center records this may be complicated then load the usb in and press f12 then click usb and wacth for it to do its artwork :D

Boot from your CD drive unless your PC/bios is old in which case dont bother with XP cos it will run like a snail.

THE CD IS YOUR BOOT DISK

1-FIND OUT HOW TO GET INTO THE BIOS
2-IN THE SECTION BOOT ORDER OR SEQUENCE
3-SELECT YOUR CD AS THE FIRST BOOT
