I think it depends on the individual and how overweight they are. I have a friend who is overweight and they have been trying to have a baby. The dr advised that she lose some weight before having a baby.
I have known many people who had healthy babies and they were overweight. The only thing I can see that would be a problem is the extra weight of being pregnant in the later months.

I dont think so. I think it is all just timing. It took me a while to get pregnant with my first child(2 years of trying off and on), but I was on the pill for 6 years and read that it sometimes takes a while after that, I was also 32 and age is another factor. I also read that sometimes getting pregnant the first time is the hardest. The second time around all I had to do was say the word baby and I was pregnant. My husband also used to wear briefs and changed to boxers, that could have something to do with it too? Try not to think about getting pregnant and just enjoy yourself and it will happen. And by the way, carrying a baby and delivering a baby is no harder for an overweight person than any one else. Actually you will probalby put on less weight. I am 39 weeks pregnant with my second child and have only put on 18 pounds. Many of my so called thin frineds and family put on 65-85 pounds when pregnant.... talk about putting a lot of extra stress on your body. yeikes.

If you have a normal menstrual cycle, then no--it shouldn't be any more difficult to conceive. I have read studies that said larger women *generally but not always* have more difficult pregnancies (greater risk of developing gestational diabetes, for one).
If you're greatly overweight and have an irregular menstrual cycle, you will probably have a harder time conceiving. I used to be morbidly obese. I asked my gyn about this, and this is the way he explained it to me: Estrogen is stored in fat. When you're overweight, you have more fat (obviously). You have all this fat with all this extra estrogen stored in it, so your body thinks it has enough, so you don't ovulate. (In essence, being overweight is like being on the pill, if that makes sense.) If you don't ovulate, you can't get pregnant.
I hope this makes sense!

It is possibly that its harder to get pregnant when you are over weight. If you see a Dr about infertility one of the first things he will talk to you about is your weight.
Weight may mess with your body and its functioning.
Question: I'm overweight. Will this affect my chances of getting pregnant?
Answer: Not necessarily. It depends on whether your menstrual cycle is normal. If you get your period every 28 days or so, it's likely that your weight isn't interfering with ovulation and it won't hurt your chances of getting pregnant.
But women who are overweight or obese may experience hormonal imbalances that can affect their menstrual cycles and prevent ovulation, making it harder to conceive.

It is not difficult for a fat woman to get pregnant. The extra weight will it make it a hard pregnancy for the woman to carry the baby, but it will also be hard on the mother and baby when the time comes to calve out.

no but it can be the important factor is having regular cycles. If your overweight with regular cycle your chances are as good as anyone Else's. If your underweight or overweight you have irregular cycles don't ovulate right it will be harder. It depends on it you have other health issues related to your weight.

No. I had no problem getting pregnant, but I kept having miscarriages because I was diabetic. I had Gastric Bypass surgery and 1 1/2 years later my son was born.
