there would be another civil war because the government is not getting my guns without a fight.

Good question. If the USA government made guns illegal it would be no longer worthy of being a government since the USA constitution allows them. Rightly so.
The true test of USA gun control comes at the point where the evil men who committed 9/11 are finally exposed and prosecuted after a full, public enquiry in to the role of the true terrorists on that day. Not the whitewash of lies and omissions that is the 'official report'. Small wonder the American reserves his right to bear arms if such things can happen without a public enquiry.
The USA constitution IS the finest in the world. It simply needs to be applied by a good leader.
And I'm British.

Who would enforce such a law? I know if I were a peace officer I wouldn't. It would be suicide, for one thing.
Americans have learned from history. Americans are tough and self-reliant. There are still enough of them that have enough common sense not to hand over absolute power to the government. There would indeed be a coup, and the administration overthrown, most likely, and a new government would be elected. Just as the founding fathers intended, the power would stay in the hands of the people.

Unfortunately, this will never happen....even if a person went into a junior school and shot dead several hundred children, they still wouldn't revoke the law of having guns. America, unfortunately, is a violent, predatory and uncompassionate country when it comes to killing. Their mentality of ' It is my right to bear arms ', is in the realms of utter stupidity.....but then again, your average american is not that particularly bright, are they ? lol
Here are some facts regarding people that have been killed as a result gun crime and/or a gun...whether it be accident etc. for the Year 2004 - 2005
Europe : 384 (which is roughly the same population as the USA)
Canada : 287
USA : 13,978 ........ Need I say more ? lol

I would be satisfied if the gun owners would compromise for the sake of public safety and common sense. Fact is, the radicals, some of whom replied to your question, have soaked up the NRA blather and radical stands on such things as background checks at gun shows, etc., that allow purchase and delivery without complete and proper background checks. Then there are those who believe they must have 28 machine guns, 14 rocket launchers, and 4 tanks to consider themselves safe.
I believe we all have the right to have weapons, and I have one, but I also believe that there should be proper safeguards to make sure my weirdo hippie vietnam-throwback neighbor doesn't have those 28 machine guns, 14 rocket launchers, and 4 tanks in his house next to me.

I pity the fool who tries to take mine. Especially after I saw how crime ridden your country got. Hell, your politicians will lock you up for defending yourself in your own home at night. Why worry about the USA, you seriously need to fix Britain and then get back to us.
Between your draconian hate speech laws, anti-self defense laws, coddling criminals and terrorists.

Then there would be an even bigger black market for guns and even more crime than authorities could have imagined and the whole gun control issue would have backfired. And then all of the conservatives would say: "I told you so!"

The US would be fine. However, the US government would be gone as we would stage a different version of the Boston Tea Party.

It will never happen. Too much money to be made out of them shooting each other or being afraid to be shot.
