The classification of micro-organism by Linneous Classsification is by shape and its arrangements. Like a rounf shape, we'll call it "cocci". rod shape is "bacilli", comma shape will be "vibrio". The arranagement is important as the cells can arrange in line, we'll call it "strepto", and in groups or piles = "staph". Thus we could differentiate them like "Streptococcus spp." and "Staphylococcus spp." So, do you think it's important to know the arrangement? Of course, as all those features are giving them names! :)

Because such arrangements are one of the criteria for identifying the organism. You can't tell what an organism is likely to do - whether or not it can cause disease - until you know what it is.
