It depends a great deal on what you mean by "freedom"--there are a lot of different meanings and senses of that word. (e.g. Are we talking about freedom from something or freedom to do something). There's certainly the perspective that the rule of law is what helps ensure that we aren't forced and coerced by whoever happens to have the most power.

The USA may be the most "free" and "freedom loving" place on Earth, but it is not lawless.

There are differences between freedom and anarchy.

Obviously, there have to be some laws and customs just so that 300 million people can get by without being completely at each others' throats.

if nothing else, its called being civil.

you have to cut your grass cause you have the freedom to chose to live in a nieghborhood that wants the lawns cut . . you also have the freedom to chose to live out in the country where the only thing that cuts the grass is the cows or old man winter.
