I accept that violent extremists can come from anywhere but there does seem to be a particular problem with violent extremists professing Islam as their guidance which requires special attention.

I can't see that very violent, totally disproportionate in their scope, answers are appropriate.

OK I see I have irritated 'Root'. Perhaps I have been guilty of a little double talk but surely the objective is to achieve something without things getting out of control. Looking for terrorists in Western societies is like looking for needles in haystacks and with limited resources attention is bound to be paid to Muslim communities.

Much as it might seem acceptable to make troublemakers just disappear it would set a very dangerous precedent and totally alter the nature of our societies.

The question was 'How can WE avoid ....'. I don't think saying Islamic leaders have not done enough answers the question, whether it is true or not.

Good one. There are extremists everywhere though, not just in Islam.

Thumbs down for not hating Thumbs up for hating. OK I see the pattern here. If I was a hater I'd be popular right?
For F*** sake.

Pretend to be opposing islamic extremists or if you want fun, pretend to be french.
Best idea would be to identify and wipe out without media coverage.
Trouble is the extemists will never allow anyone else's views to be heard. Islamic countries do not allow other religions the freedoms we allow in UK and they simpy want to wipe out any other thought process and descend into the primitive islamic state of centuries ago.

Its the way the nazis and catholic spanish inquisition worked and it will get the same response. Eventually ultimate destruction will be used and it will be the USA that does it but only after they have found an alternative to oil.

at this point in time it is very difficult to convince muslims that they are not being victimised by the backlash of extremism. granted every religion has fanatics, however none have been so destructive in modern times as have the islamic extremists a new brand of fanatics happy to kill themselves as a weapon of inflicting damage on others.
unfortunately mainstream islam has not come forth strongly to portray these as misguided. criticism should have come from the highest levels, however even with moderates distancing themselves from terrorist acts, there is heard some voice of empathy with the socalled martyrs.
until moderate muslims can stand up and be counted as fighting terrorism too, it will always be perceived as an attack on islam.
what we must answer is whether the fight must go on, and doubtless, extremist hatred cannot be left to go unchecked.

if you say white they'll say black, if you say black they'll say white, if you say yes, they'll say no, if you say the sky is blue they'll say it's green, if you say it's green they'll say it's blue and so ad nauseam...there is nothing that can be said or done (nor any amount of appeasing that seems to be endemic at the moment) that will not be an excuse to spew hatred and threaten violence for threatening islam. I'm just about sick of their war cries and their 'we're the victims' tears as they prepare the next suicide bomber.

I would like to see Islam being more forward in condemning violence. This would certainly help matters.

Make them all disappear then we won't have to worry about such things anymore.
