Dan Marino. And it has nothing to do with all the records he set. When you watched him play, it was poetry-in-motion. He had such a command of the field. When he started with Mark Duper and Mark Clayton, there wasn't a pass he couldn't hit. After those two receivers, he didn't have much help, but still managed to be an effective QB, winning games and leading his team. He was a giant among quarterbacks.

That is an objective question so you'll only get objective answers but I think that John Elway was the greatest QB. He took the Denver Broncos to the SuperBowl 5 times and won two of them. He was even SuperBowl MVP in his final game. Although the Broncos lost 3 SuperBowls with him as their QB, they would have never had a chance to get there without him.

There are a lot of candidates. In terms of pure skill, there aren't many who can hold a candle to Dan Marino. In terms of ability to lead their team and win titles, you have a number of people: Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, Bart Starr, Johnny Unitas.
And, I'm sorry, but you have to have a severe case of cranial rectal insertion to think that Steve Young was the greatest QB to ever play the game.

Okay, many will say Steve Young..and I won't argue..he has won the big one twice, Montana WAY up there...some may say Elway and Marino all excellent examples of that position and all have made their mark in a big way..and I'd never take anything away from them....but
Peyton Manning has redefined that position, as far as skill...hands down the best I've ever seen. Some will say: He's never won the big-one...yes that's true...but that's not the QUESTION either...it's who's best...and Manning is that person!

Of all time? I would have to say Steve Young because he is the best QB to ever play the game.
Active? Donovan McNabb. Why? He'll show you this season. He is a multi-dimensional threat. He is an accurate passer and a he can scramble. He is one of only 7 QBs to both pass for 20,000 yards and rush for 2,500.

If you are just asking who is the greatest, and not who was most successful, then it is definitely Marino.
Elway and Joe Montana had the best success.
However, don't count out Peyton. He will break many more records before he is done.

Payton Manning because he help the Colts have a 13-3 record last season and has help them so far this season to a 2-0 record. He throws very good and most players do not miss his passes

Montana, and Otto Graham. Check you history before you say Otto who. They have the championships. Passing records etc mean nothing compared to that.

I'm surprised Tom Brady has not yet been mentioned. Heck, he even got a guest spot on the simpsons. Surely thats a sign of greatness.
