Babies sleep very deeply and soundly when they are asleep, even if its only a couple hours.

Because when babies start sleeping through the night, before you know it they are sleeping 12 hours straight, without a peep. Plus, just look at a sleeping baby. They always look so peaceful and cute and comfortable! That's probably more where the phrase comes from!

I think because the *idea* of a baby is peacful. But I think most of the people that say that dont have kids. lol I know I would have say sleep like a baby after my two.

Newborns might wake that often but older babies don't usually. Sleeping like a baby means that your sleep was content and nothing woke you up.

wondering the same thing... my baby girl only sleeps for 45 minutes at a time!

They spend almost all of their time sleeping. Think about it they're always laying down and cannot walk. They need to eat and use the bathroom, but mostly, they simply sleep.

But when they ARE asleep, especially in a deep sleep, they look so cute & peaceful, as if nothing else matters in the world.
