Well since you said HI most people would likely look to see if you are talking to them. You said "hi" you didn't say anything about saying Hi Jack. Also most people wouldn't think much of it. We aren't that reactive by nature. Now if you said it was a hijacking then YEAH they would jump you or such. Say hi jack no one will do much more then glance. Although most would just say hey to their friend. Also do you just run into these people on the plane all the time. I mean you are making it sound like you had no clue they were there.

Hi Jack, say that and the next thing people around are gonna do is crash the plane to a field before you do anything stupid like crash it to a building.

You would not say that.... more naturally, you would probably say "Hey, JACK!". Then people would look and see you are talking to Jack and put their blunt objects away.
