I got this last night in the e-mail and i got so pissed at the ACLU. heres the e-mail: What's wrong with this picture?
If you look closely at the picture above, you will note that all the Marines pictured are bowing their heads. That's because they're praying.
This incident took place at a recent ceremony honoring the Birthday of the Corps, and it has the ACLU up in arms. "These are federal employees," says Lucius Traveler, a spokesman for the ACLU, "on federal property and on federal time. For them to pray is clearly an establishment of religion, and we must nip this in the bud immediately."
When asked about the ACLU's charges, Colonel Jack Fessender, speaking for the Commandant of the Marine Corps said (cleaned up a bit), "Screw the ACLU." GOD Bless Our Warriors, Send the ACLU to France.
So way in the hell are the ACLU so DUMB? why cant they get it? and WHY DONT THEY GO TO FRANCE?!!!!!!!!!

Actually, the ACLU is correct. My tax money should not be spent of people praying for ANYTHING.
I dont beleive in your God. About 30% of our population doesnt beleive in your God - they either dont beleive at all, or they have other beleifs. Since when is it the Govts. right to establish a state sponsored religion??
Tell you what - how about we let you take time to pray to God....and we allow all govt employees that are muslims to have five prayer breaks a day - on your dime. Oh, and dont forget allowing all OTHER religions the chance to pray to their Gods too....What youre left with is people praying all day long and no work getting done. Fact is - if you wanna pray, do it on your own time. Not on the Govt. dime.

The news story is fallacious. There is no Colonel Jack Fessender, and no Lucius Traveler. Someone, at some point, found a picture of praying Marines and attached an entirely fictive account of some ACLU action to it.
For the record, judging by the Lemon Test, there's nothing wrong with Marines praying, unless all Marines are officially obligated to say some specific prayer. Then it's certainly debatable.

Wait. Why won't they go to France? Obviously because we need them here.
"God bless our warriors". That is NOT the American way. The American way, according to the Bill of Rights (unless our forefathers were heathens, terrorists, or just plain un-American) specifically says "respecting an establishment of religion"--if those soldiers were Muslim, Hindi, Buddhist, etc., I'm sure they would not have been allowed the same freedom to pray together. If any of those soldiers were Atheist, they had to sit there and listen to a load of prayer that I'm sure was just annoying.

Why don't you go to the ACLU's website and educate yourself first before spouting off such stupid trite? And why are you posting a SPAM email for as your question?
The ACLU is an organization that protects civil liberties such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of whatever.. Those rights that were guaranteed us when this country was founded.
One of the foundations of this country was the seperation of church and state. This country was not founded on the idea of any particular religion. In fact, our founding fathers were either not religious or didn't believe in a personal god (to read: Judeo-Christian god). They wanted the church OUT of the govt.
With that said, if soldiers are praying on "Company" time and it's "Company" grounds they're doing it on, regardless of who they are, they are violating church/state seperation. Doesn't matter what they believe in or if they want to pray.. let them do that all they want.. just not on MY time or MY dime.

why don't they go to france. great solution for everyone. my god, how sad.
if all the soldiers were praying willingly and in their own religion (meaning nothing was forced on them), then - yes - it is dumb.

Imagine, if you will, that Christianity wasn't the majority religion in America. Would you want them paying to Allah on your dime.

I wish I knew. On one hand, I support civil liberties, but I never will understand why they have chosen to go to war with Christianity at every level. They will destroy way more traditions in our country
than save people individual rights.
