Yanks used to be all Americans. Then it was just those from the northern states. Now it is just a baseball team that buys the World Series.
And as far as the spelling goes…with hooked on phonics, ebonics, IM-speak, and the lack of education in general, I’m just glad that we can communicate at all with England and her commonwealth.

As much as I hate to say it, I love my country and I'm proud to be an American, but we are butchering the English language. There seems to be no attempt to spell correctly, use proper grammar, or use the proper tense of a word. There is a trend toward writing the way we talk or writing in our own created shorthand. Emails are some of the worst examples of this trend. Laziness is also creeping in. People shorten words for no reason. I hate shortened words the most. Its a hooded sweatshirt for crying out loud, not a "hoodie". I don't even know what the proper spelling is of that created word. That's the other thing that is common, created words or words that are a combination of parts of other words. I believe instant messaging is one of the primary causes of all of this. I guess the point is that in America, language is suddenly open to interpretation. Younger people, I am sorry to say, are some of the worst offenders. What are they getting taught in school? It is driving me insane.

I think all of us "Yanks" think that. BUT it is still the English language. But it is a good idea, and the boston dictionary would be great also.

I spell any way that I want to within the limits set forth by the dictionary. I spell theatre instead of theater, I spell fetus rather than foetus. I used to have a spell check poem that made fun of spelling mistakes that would not be caught by a spell checker - sew instead of so and on it went.

But wouldn't that be like saying " Why don't Mexicans speak Mexican ? No, they speak Spanish.
We DO speak and spell English, but without the accent.

american is not a language, it is too similar to ours to claim that it is different and they are probably too dumb to learn any foreign languages so they couldn't change even if they wanted to.
