Say for example i am a gaints fan living in DC and i get critized for not being a redskin fan. I am not from NY but my dad is. therefore i should be allowed to be a giants fan. i believe there is two ways you are allowed to be a fan of a team. 1 you live or lived for more then 2 years in the general area of the team. 2 you have 1 or both parents are from the general area of the team

you cant just like the team because of a player. thats stupid. If you for example live in North Dakoda(and have no team) then you have a "wild card". BUT as long as you live in the suburbs or in the city/state of a team you can be a fan

I'm also a huge Oakland A's fan and never lived there but my father was a kid when they were the Philadelphia A's so he instilled them as my team at a very young age

Well, you're "allowed" to be a fan of any team you want. It's just always easier when you live near it because you're surrounded by the local coverage and the fandom.
It's always nice to have some kind of tie, though.
And yes you can be a fan of a team because you like a certain player. Why not? If you have no other tie to a team, you're saying you like them for some other reason - you like the city, uniforms, team tradition, whatever. Why are those more legitimate reasons than your respect for the personality or abilities of a particular player?

I think that is completely bogus, since I am a HUGE Oakland A's fan but I've never lived in Oakland or have no parent from there. I grew up in Colorado without a baseball team, and the A's were the one i've picked and grown to love.
Anyone can be a fan of any team they choose as long as they are loyal, follow their team, and root for them no matter what the case! It doesn't matter where you're from!

You can be a fan of whatever team you want. Who cares where you or your parents live. Every since I understood what football was about, I've been a fan of the COWBOYS. But when the state I live in got a team, I've grown to love them too! Now I am criticized for that. I've been told you can't have two teams. I usually tell them to bite me.

It doesn't matter where you live. You can cheer for any team you like. I grew up in the suburbs of Philly and I am a die-hard, bleed green Eagles fan. But I spent 3 years in Atlanta, including our Super Bowl year and the horrible year after. It can be difficult but a true fan will show up in their teams colors to the home town bar on Sunday!
My views on the Eagles? They've come a long way from last season. We had a tough game last Sunday but I think we've got the talent to have a great season. We'll make it to the playoffs and hopefully beyond. My one complaint is our head coach and his passive play-calling. I hope your team is ready for us when we come to the Meadowlands on 12/17!! We're gonna be out for blood!
GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!

I've never lived in Indiana...but I LOVE the Colts, all because of Peyton Manning. As long as that team has someone or something you like about it, there's no reason not to be a fan. You don't necessarily have to live there to root for that team.

You can be a fan of whatever team you want no matter where you live for any reason.
It's a free country (or at least it's supposed to be).
