what does "DOUBLETAKE" mean? We're supposed to write an essay about a story and one of the questions is if the story is a doubletake? I can't make an essay because I'm not clear w/ the meaning of the word.

It's when you look once, then turn away, but then suddenly you realize something and you look immediately again as if surprised when you didn't grasp it the first time.

A double-take is a comedy convention in which a character will look at something, but not react to the visual stimulus immediately. The response—often fear, anger or surprise, but on occasion delight—takes several seconds to occur, at which time the character will look back at the thing in question (or perhaps run back into a room after exiting) and deliver a reaction (often exaggerated for humorous effect).

A double take is when you look at something/someone turn you head away have a flash or memory or impression and then turn your head to look again with some concentration to confirm the impression or thought that stuck you. If you have ever been walking in a crowd have a memory impression of someone and look again to confirm if you know them is an example.

double take is taking a second look at something you have heard or seen before. Is it the same story with new packaging. ie, the wedding planner, and I do but I dont, same basic idea of a wedding planner falling in love with a guy, a little diffrent twist.

I was walking down the street one day and I saw this girl across the street who was so pretty I had to look at her twice. Me looking at her twice is a double take.

It would be like if you took your boobs out in class and a guy in class with you briefly glanced in your direction; then looked away; realizes he thinks he just saw your naked boobs, and then quickly looked back at you with his eyes popping out.
