I know all the reasons you aren't supposed to do it, but I tried it just once in a semi-emergency and couldn't make it work!! Baby kept knocking the bottle down (trying to hold it for herself), when she shifted the blanket I had under the bottle would also shift and the bottle would fall, so I'm just curious, all you moms that did it before it became a no-no, and even those of you who still do, how do you make it work?

I have been a daycare provider for 20 years and a mom for 27 years. I know all the reasons for not propping the bottle as well, but there have been times when it had to be done, at least for a short period of time. Two ways have worked for me. One way is to lay the baby down on the floor on her side, both arms in front of her. Place a bed pillow next to her and prop the bottle on the pillow. If she likes to hold it, she still can while using the pillow for support. If the baby is in a carrying seat, that is a bit more tricky as you have to have the proper combination of blankets and/or pillows. That often gets to be a little too much on the baby's stomach in order to get the bottle high enough up. I have a small squishy pillow that I place on the baby's tummy then put a lightweight baby quilt on top of that. Sometimes a second blanket or a burp cloth or cloth diaper is still needed to get the bottle high enough. Make sure the baby's arms are both out. I found giving the baby another burp cloth or cloth diaper to hold in both her hands helped prevent her from pulling the props out. Laying on the floor is easier, but not always workable, especially if you are in the car. On the rare occasion that it is needed, it doesn't hurt anything as long as you are right there in case of choking.

If your gonna prop the bottle make sure the baby is sitting up right put the bottle in her mouth and put a blanket towell or whatever and put it under the bottle kinda snuggle the bottle in the blanket when the baby is done drinking they'll spit it out. its not recommended to prop the bottle definately in a small baby like under the age of at least 6 mos.

No, you are not supposed to do it because the baby can choke. I do it because I am allowed to bring my baby to work, so I can't sit and feed her all day. She is sitting directly beside me, so I am not worried that she is going to choke, as I am sitting right here. But, I wad up about three or four receiving blankets and make a dent in them for the bottle. She knocks it over, spits it out and drops it alot. That is just how it goes. Anyway, you should never be out of the room anyway, so just pick up the bottle and try again.

we used a thin blanket, like a receiving blanket, and piles it up so there was a groove in the middle. he was sleeping in those little foam wedges at the time and i think we used those somehow too.

It really isn't a good idea. Nothing is as important as your child's health.
