I have been working for a company for about 3 months. When I was hired, I talked to my boss about the fact that I am a part time student, and that I have 2 semesters left before I graduate with my business degree. We talked about my scehdule specifically, and she agreed that it would not be a problem at all. (I know I should have gotten it in writing).
She has since been let go, and my new boss will not let me take my lunch break at the end of the day so that I can make it to class on time 2 days a week. I work an hour away from home and school. I would not be missing any work time, just taking a lunch break at the end of the day instead of in the middle. I have approached him a few times about it, and he absolutely will not budge. My degree is related to my work, and would be very beneficial to me in my job. I love my job a lot, but should I be looking elsewhere? Transferring schools is a pain, and Saturdays are not an option...

You are supposed to work things out with your boss, and you tried. Since it didn't work, I'd go over his head. Or maybe you can give it one good last ditch effort, tell him you need to schedule a meeting with him about something thats very important to your career. If he will not even pretend to give you the time of day about this, I would definitely go over his head. Maybe you could have him check out your time schedule to show how long you've been doing this and that it is not a problem. I would hate to suggest you switch jobs, but if your not planning on keeping this particular job for the rest of your life, and you can't get anyone to support you on this, I would say that you would have to make a decision about whether you really want this job for the rest of your life. And if not, then switch jobs, go to college, and take care of your career. Good luck.

go above his head and talk to his boss or HR- the fact you are working on a related degree while working there should be enough for them to help you out. If they wont then obviously this company is not where you want to work anyway. Do give 2 weeks notice if you decide to quit.

This is a tough one..has your boss said why he is being so stubborn? Not really much you can do if he won't budge other than finding a new job..But it is a lesson for you..Always get promises in writing as you never know when your boss will change

Yeah. I'm sorry but it is time to start looking for another job. A job can be replaced but a degree and all the time you put into it is a once in a lifetime kind of thing. And you've been there three months...you can use them as a reference.

Most companies help those who wish to continue their education(especially if it's in a related field).
I would get an appointment with Human Resources and ask them to honour your original employment agreement.
If they don't want to , i would consider tendering my resignation.
Your education is more important than the job and will open doors for you in the future.
If this company isn't willing to invest in you, then you are wasting your time there.

if you are confident that the what you are studying is releated to your work and it will be beneficial to the company then tell your boss about that if he still doesn't agree then quit the job and find another one when your boss is an understanding one. i'm sure if you have the talent and your boss knows that he will surely agree with you if he doesn't quit at that moment.i'm sure you will find another job soon enough.

Well, if your boss is that much of an a$$, then I would look for a new job.
Talk with HR about you previous conditions of accepting the job.

Talk to your Human Resources department. Go above your boss to his boss. Sound like he's just being an a**. There's no reason he should be able to accommodate your request.
