In arabic, vowels do not transliterate perfectly into english, so that the first vowel here, though a "u" in arabic, in other cases can be more like an "o," the same applies to the "e/i". The actual arabic pronunciation is closer to Muslim, but it is actually more like "Mooslim". Moslem is just an odler term created before modern linguistic comparison of the languages.

Orwellian Newspeak. Also appeasement, in bending over backwards trying not to offend a group that colludes with Exxon in price-gouging. Also stupidity by the language dictators, because it should be spelled MOOSLIM or else it will be mispronounced with a short U. I always use MOSLEM because I don't have any respect for the ignorant, self-appointed language-changers.

Hello, both are accurate as terms, concerning to people followers of the Islam. "Muslim" is more widely spread and I deem as one of the reasons the easiest pronounciation and it is also common used in media too.By the way the other correct terms for "Muslims" are also Islamite,Mussulman and Muhammedan ( all correct but rarely used in English). Best of luck!

As far as I understand, both are valid spellings of the word. It is a transliteration of an Arabic word. The only actual and accurate spelling would be found in Arabic.

Yeah, it took me some getting used to. But this is more correct. The US takes a hell of a long time to overcome its ignorance. i remember the very old movies about "Darkest Africa" Oooh, scary!

It's just the way people pronouce it. Muslim is the way we spell it in English. It's just that different people say it different ways because of their language.
